Presenting MC SALT experience

The activities implemented within the project at Cervia (Italy) and Aigues Mortes (France) saltworks for burying the dangerous power-lines at these two sites have been presented by Bulgarian partner. In addition the opportunity for general presentation of the project partners and sites was taken.

The participants in the event presented different approaches to identification and safeguarding of elements of the electricity grid posing risk to wild birds. Mr. Winfried Böhmer from the German nature conservation organization NABU presented the extensive experience gained in Germany, and the representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Water acquainted the participants with the Bulgarian legislation.

For the past few years, significant resources have been allocated to the insulation and safeguarding of elements of the power grid that pose risks to birds, since this has been identified as one of the most serious threats to the avifauna. NGOs, companies and governmental entities implement related activities, which calls for exchange of experience and communication between the organizations involved.

The event was organized by EVN Bulgaria and “Green Balkans-Stara Zagora” NGO within “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 project. The expert workshop was held on 26.02.2015 in Plovdiv involving more than 40 participants representing power distribution companies, nature conservation non-governmental organizations, government institutions, and international experts.
